Rialto, California – Each year, American observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Dia de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Mrs. Andrea Roman is the Principal at Charlotte N. Werner Elementary School located in Rialto, California. She stated, “I appreciated the words Baron shared with our families and students.”  “Baron did a book signing for the parents and students.” “I think it’s important for our students to see positive role models that look like them and share the same culture as them, and not just those depicted in a negative light.”

Mrs. Patricia Connor, District Lead Officer and Mrs. Ayanna Balogun, Assistant Principal the message of Baron to our students and parents the importance of having positive role models to look up to which was our intended purpose. Each family in attendance left with a signed commemorative book by Mr. Littleton and shared his vision of putting books in childrens’s hands by students selling books as a fundraiser on Latino Contribution to Society “CREATING BOOK DEALERS NOT DRUG DEALERS” Students will sell books for $10.00 and earn 50% of their sales. His vision is to the flood the street with books and create 40,000 student BOOK DEALERS.

Baron Jay Foundation is a 501(c) (3) federally tax exempt non-profit organization that is committed to promoting health awareness, relationship guidance, employment preparedness, and financial literacy and arts education in underserved communities by hosting workshops and programs for at-risk youth.
